Peace Corps commandant expresses dismay over Senate’s action on PCN Bill

From Gambo Ahmed, Lafia

Nasarawa state Commandant of the Peace Corps of Nigeria (PCN), a Non-Governmental Organization, Mr Bala Joshua, has expressed dismay over the Senate’s handling of the the Peace Corps of Nigeria Bill.

Bala who made his feelings known in an interview with newsmen in Lafia, the state capital yesterday.
Joshua added that for a bill to be passed into law, it had to be carefully scrutinized to suit the best interests of Nigerian and must be devoid of any controversy.
He however expresses concern over the way some members of the Senate are handling the PCN Bill despite it passing all necessary hurdles, adding that it was a delay tactic to discredit and throw out the bill.
His words: “I am not really bothered about what happened on Tuesday because no journey in life is easy. From my personal opinion, the bill is okay. It scaled through the public hearing and other hurdles. Then nobody raised objections.
“Even the House of Representative have concluded their job on the bill. It is just for the Senate to concur. Now at the tail end, we are hearing all these things. If it has to do with the case in court, i don’t think it has to do with the functions of the National Assembly.”
He further stressed that the issue of youth unemployment in the country was dire, more paramount than party affiliation hence the need for the collective will of Nigeria’s political leaders to take a positive huge step in solving the problem of youth restiveness across the country by passing the bill into law.
